Chinon is the first appellation of red wine in volume in the Loire Valley

- 1 district: Indre et Loire

- 200 winemakers, 60 merchants, one producer group
- 3 colours: red (85% of the production), pink (13%) and white (2%)
- 3 grape varieties: cabernet franc (min 90%) and cabernet sauvignon (max 10%) for red and pink wines; chenin for white wines
- Plantation density: 4 500 vine plants per hectare
- 47 hectoliter/ hectare average yield over the past 5 years
- 14 million bottles a year on average
- 91% of sales in France
- 9% export sales, mainly in the United States, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
